Privacy policy — Rowmark
Last updated 30 September 2026 (this version sends no usage counts)
This policy explains what Rowmark ("the app"), published by Escape Plan Software Ltd, uses, where it goes, and the choices you have. It is specific to Rowmark and takes priority over the general company policy at escapeplan.software/privacy for anything the two disagree on.
Who we are
Escape Plan Software Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17262078, with its registered office at Suite 10906, 5 Brayford Square, London E1 0SG, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for Rowmark. You can reach us at support@escapeplan.software.
The short version
Rowmark collects no personal data. Your projects, counts, patterns, photos and notes are stored only on your iPhone or iPad. The app has no account, no advertising and no tracking. Your patterns are never uploaded or shared, and no online or generative AI service reads them; the app reads them only on your device, to find which line is which row. Nothing you enter is sent to us, and the app sends nothing to our own servers.
What Rowmark uses, and where it goes
- Account: None. The app does not ask for your name, email or any sign-in.
- Projects and counts: each project's name, craft, yarn, colour, needle or hook size, row and stitch counts, repeats, reminders, notes, the time spent on the counter, where the row ruler is and your recent changes (for Undo). Stored only on your device.
- Patterns: if you add a pattern PDF or a picture from Files, the app keeps a copy in its own folder on your device so it can show it with the row ruler. The original stays where it was. To move the row ruler to the right line, the app reads the pattern on your device: a PDF's own text, or, for a scanned page or a photo, Apple's text recognition, which also runs on your device. It keeps only where each line is and which row a line is labelled with, not the words. The app never uploads or shares your pattern.
- Photos: if you add a photo of a pattern page or of your piece, you choose it with Apple's photo picker (the app does not get access to your photo library), and a resized copy is stored only in the app's folder.
- Lock Screen counter, widget and Siri: if you turn on the Lock Screen counter or add the widget, your project's name and row count are shown on your Lock Screen or Home Screen, where anyone holding your phone can see them. They are kept in a small file on your device that only the app and its widget can read. Siri, the Shortcuts app, the Action button and Control Center run "Add a Row" (and Siri "Take Back a Row") on your device. The Lock Screen counter is available only on iPhone.
- Backups: a backup file is made only when you ask for one, and saved where you choose (for example Files or iCloud Drive, which Apple and you control; we cannot access it). Like other app data, your projects can also be included in your own iCloud or computer backup of the device.
- Settings: your size system, screen and haptics choices. Stored only on your device.
- Notifications: if you switch on renewal reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
- Purchases and subscriptions: Apple handles payment through the App Store. We never see your card details. The app checks Apple's signed record of your subscription or Lifetime purchase on the device. Apple gives us sales reports that do not identify you.
- Age range: in regions where the law requires it, iOS may tell the app your age range (for example 18 or over). The app keeps this in memory only; it is not stored or sent anywhere, and it does not change what you can do in the app.
- Analytics or crash reporting: None. This version of Rowmark sends no usage counts and contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code (below). If you have chosen in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports under Apple's own terms.
- AI features: No generative AI, and nothing is sent to any AI service. Reading a scanned pattern page or a photo uses Apple's text recognition on your device (see Patterns).
- Links: this policy, the terms and the support page open inside the app in Safari's view, only when you tap them.
- Support messages: if you email support@escapeplan.software, we keep the message and your email address to reply and keep a record. Please don't send us patterns you bought unless we ask for something specific to fix a problem.
Anonymous usage counts
This version of Rowmark sends no usage counts. If a later version counts how the app is used, anonymously, this page will first describe exactly what is counted and why, and the app will say so on its first screen and let you turn it off, before that version sends anything.
Why we use this data
- Projects, counts, patterns, photos and settings on your device: to provide the counter, the row ruler and the widgets you asked for (performance of our contract with you).
- Support emails: to answer you (our legitimate interest in helping people who contact us).
- Purchase records from Apple: to meet accounting and tax obligations.
Who we share data with
Rowmark sends nothing about you to us, and nothing to our own servers. Apple distributes the app and processes payments under Apple's own privacy policy. If you email us, the message passes through Cloudflare (which routes mail for our domain) and our mailbox provider, as described in the company privacy policy. We do not sell personal data and do not share it with advertisers.
International transfers
Cloudflare, Inc., which routes our support email, is based in the United States and certified under the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; our mailbox provider may store messages outside the UK, in which case we rely on the UK's adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
How long we keep data
Data in the app stays on your device until you delete it: deleting a project removes its counts, pattern copies and photo, and deleting the app removes everything. There is no copy on our side. Support emails are kept for up to two years after the last message in the conversation, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive a copy in a portable format. For Rowmark, the only personal data we could hold is a support email you sent us; everything else is on your device, where you can view, export and delete it yourself. Email support@escapeplan.software and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Commission (the ICO) at ico.org.uk. If you live in the EU or EEA, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Rowmark is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13, it is not in the App Store's Kids category, and it does not collect personal data from anyone. If you believe a child has sent us personal data by email, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use your data, the app will tell you the next time you open it.
