Terms of use — Stayline
Last updated 1 October 2026
These terms cover your use of Stayline ("the app"), published by Escape Plan Software Ltd ("we", "us"), company number 17262078, registered in England and Wales. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms and to Apple's standard end-user licence agreement below.
Licence
Your use of Stayline is governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA), which you can read at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Where these terms and the Apple EULA conflict on a point the EULA covers, the Apple EULA governs.
What Stayline is, and is not
Not tax, legal or immigration advice. Official records (passport stamps, EES) prevail. Stayline counts days; it does not decide residency.
- Stayline is a day-counting tool. It counts the days you were in each country, from the trips you enter and, if you turn it on, from your iPhone's location, and applies the counting method of the rule you choose: the Schengen 90/180 rolling window, a counter per calendar or tax year (by any part of the day or by midnight), or the US substantial presence test. For Schengen it also counts days in Gibraltar from 15 July 2026 (unless you turn on "I live in Gibraltar") and, unless you turn this off, days in Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City, to be cautious; counting those four can make its count higher than official records.
- It does not tell you whether you are resident anywhere for tax or any other purpose, whether you may enter or stay in a country, or what you should declare. Residence and immigration rules have further conditions and exceptions that the app does not apply (for example the UK statutory residence test's ties, transit days and deeming rule; exemptions from the US substantial presence test; bilateral visa waiver agreements; the rules for family members of EU citizens; the length of stay printed on a visa). The app says which parts it does not apply.
- Border authorities decide the length of an authorised stay, and their records (entry and exit stamps and the EU Entry/Exit System) prevail over any figure in the app. Tax authorities decide residence. Check anything important with the authority concerned or a qualified adviser.
- The results are only as complete as the information the app has. Trips you did not enter, days without a location, and locations near a border or at sea can make a count incomplete; the app marks days it is not sure about and asks you, and counts an unconfirmed day that might be in the Schengen area as a Schengen day.
- Country boundaries come from Natural Earth (public domain) and are simplified; near a border the app cannot tell reliably which side you were on, and it shows de facto lines without taking a position on any dispute.
- We base the rules on published official sources and test the Schengen calculation against the European Commission's short-stay calculator, but we cannot promise that every result is error-free. If you find a result you believe is wrong, please tell us at support@escapeplan.software.
Subscriptions
- What's on offer: Stayline is unlocked by an auto-renewing subscription, either yearly or monthly. Before you subscribe you can enter your trips and see today's result once, free: your Schengen 90/180 count, or the counter you chose when Stayline first opened. Current prices and any free trial are shown on the purchase screen inside the app and on the App Store before you buy. That is the source of truth, not this page, because Apple localises and may update pricing.
- Free trial: Eligible new subscribers to the yearly plan get a 7-day free trial. Before you confirm, the purchase screen shows the trial on a timeline (free today, a reminder on day 5 if you turn it on, the yearly price on day 7) and one sentence with the trial length, the yearly price you will be charged when it ends and how to stop it (for example, "Free for 7 days, then £24.99/year, renewing unless you cancel in Settings at least 24 hours before the trial ends."). If you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, you are not charged. The monthly plan has no trial.
- Auto-renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically for the same length and price shown at purchase, unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Cancellation: You can cancel any time in your device's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, or from Stayline's Settings → Manage Subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. We cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf, because Apple manages billing.
- Your data if you stop: your trips and records stay on your device whether or not you subscribe. If the automatic log is on, it keeps recording after a subscription ends; the subscription screen says so, and its Your Data link lets you turn the log off and delete all data at any time. Exporting your journal, or a report of every recorded day, does not need a subscription: both are under Your Data on the subscription screen and in Settings.
- Refunds: All purchases are billed by Apple, so refunds are decided by Apple: request one from Stayline's Settings → Request a Refund (shown while a purchase you paid for is active) or at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple declines a refund and you believe that is wrong, write to support@escapeplan.software and we will look into it.
- Price changes: If we ever change the price, Apple notifies existing subscribers in advance, and asks for your agreement where the rules require it. You can cancel before the new price applies.
Acceptable use
Stayline is for your personal use, to count your own days and those of people who travel with you. Please do not copy, resell or redistribute the app, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows you to.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is". We work to keep it reliable and to fix reported bugs, but we do not promise it will be error-free or available without interruption, to the extent permitted by law.
Liability
Our liability to you is as set out in Apple's Standard EULA. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to digital content that is faulty or not as described; nothing in these terms affects those rights.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence.
Changes
We may update these terms as the app changes. The current version is always the one published at this address, and material changes will be flagged inside the app.
